Job summary

First National Technology Solutions (FNTS) seeks a Sr. IBM iSeries Engineer to maintain IBM i environments, plan migrations via tape save/restore or replication, and support break/fix capacity.

The role emphasizes delivering reliable managed services and working within a remote, nationwide team. The ideal candidate has deep IBM i experience, strong OS upgrade and backup skills, and a focus on proactive problem solving.

Qualifications

• IBM iSeries System Administration with 10+ years experience.
• Knowledge of i/OS from V5R4 to V7R3 and major differentiators.
• POWER systems hardware understanding.
• Experience configuring LPARs with Hardware Management Console.
• Experience with JBOD, RAID, SAN storage and performance differences.
• Experience configuring TCP/IP for IPV4 networks (IPv6 desired).
• Familiarity with journal management and OS upgrade processes.
• Software-based replication such as MIMIX, iTera, PowerHA.
• BRMS backup solutions for system recovery/migration.
• Tape/library backup & deployment knowledge.
• Proficiency writing CL code; strong communication and independent work habit.

Responsibilities

• Respond to incidents and requests with in-depth analysis and SLA-driven solutions.
• Identify opportunities from past issues to prevent recurrence as part of Continuous Improvement.
• Perform reporting tasks as requested by customers.
• Plan and participate in DR testing, OS upgrades and PTF deployment.
• Maintain IBM i OS and Licensed Program Products configurations.
• Create and maintain system documentation and runbooks.
• Assist customers with migration to FNTS or remote management setup.
• Advance technology adoption using roadmaps and new hardware/OS capabilities.
• Install new OS and subsystem releases with customer timing and testing.
