Job summary

FNTS, a First National Technology Solutions company, seeks a Sr IBM iSeries Engineer to maintain IBM i environments, plan migrations, and support DR/backups across customer systems. The role emphasizes BRMS, replication tech (MIMIX/iTera) and robust networking knowledge in a remote US position.

Ideal candidates will have 10+ years of IBM iSeries administration, strong OS management, and experience with LPARs, storage, and automation tools. Travel minimal; sponsorship not provided.

Qualifications

• IBM iSeries admin experience (10+ years).
• Knowledge of i/OS systems from V5R4 to V7R3.
• Knowledge of POWER systems hardware.
• Experience configuring LPARs using the Hardware Management Console.
• Experience with storage management in JBOD, RAID, and SAN environments.
• Experience defining and troubleshooting printer configurations.
• Experience configuring TCP/IP and related servers in IPv4 (IPv6 desired).
• Understanding of journal management.
• Software-based replication (MIMIX, iTera, PowerHA).
• BRMS backup solutions for system recovery/migration.
• Familiarity with tape library configuration and implementation.
• OS Upgrades, PTF deployment and software installation via Image Catalog.
• Experience using performance tools such as MPG.
• Experience configuring and deploying automation and monitoring tools such as Halcyon, absMessage, and Robot products.
• Experience coding and debugging CL.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentations).
• Unrestricted work authorization; sponsorship not required.

Responsibilities

• Respond to incidents and requests in a timely manner providing in-depth analysis and solutions to meet SLAs.
• Review previous issues looking for opportunities to proactively avoid future problems as part of the FNTS Continuous Improvement culture.
• Perform reporting functions as required by the customer.
• Preparation of DR testing/planning, OS upgrades, PTF deployment.
• Maintenance and configuration of the IBM i OS and Licensed Program Products (LPPs).
• Write and maintain system documentation.
• Work with customers to accomplish migration to FNTS or remote management setup.
• Implement technologies per team roadmap; develop new offerings through new hardware/OS capabilities such as Live Partition Mobility (LPM).
• Install new software (OS & major subsystem) releases with timing/testing/implementation.
• Maintain golden/sandbox systems for templates.
• Participate in technical infrastructure projects as the IBM i SME.
