Job summary

FNTS is seeking a Sr. IBM iSeries Engineer to support a managed services team, maintaining IBM i environments, planning migrations, and ensuring backups and rapid break/fix responses. This remote role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States, with no sponsorship available.

The candidate will participate in incident response, system documentation, and technology migrations, leveraging Live Partition Mobility and other IBM i capabilities to support customer environments.

Qualifications

• IBM iSeries System Administration experience (10+ years)
• Knowledge of i/OS from V5R4 to V7R3 and differentiators
• POWER systems hardware familiarity
• Experience configuring LPARs with HMC
• JBOD/RAID/SAN storage knowledge and performance differences
• Printer configurations troubleshooting
• TCP/IP config in IPv4 environment (IPv6 desired)
• Understanding of journal management
• Software-based replication (MIMIX, iTera, PowerHA)
• BRMS backup solutions for recovery/migration
• Tape library configuration/implementation
• OS upgrades and PTF deployment via Image Catalog
• Performance tools usage (MPG)
• Automation/monitoring tool experience (Halcyon, absMessage, Robot)
• CL coding and debugging
• Independent and self-motivated
• Strong written/verbal/presentation communication
• AV/AR, web query, Flash Copy, Global Mirror knowledge

Responsibilities

• Respond to incidents and requests with in-depth analysis to meet SLAs
• Review past issues to identify prevention opportunities as part of continuous improvement
• Perform reporting functions as requested by customer
• Prepare for DR testing/planning, OS upgrades, PTF deployment
• Maintain IBM i OS and Licensed Program Products (LPPs)
• Write and maintain system documentation
• Assist migration to FNTS or remote management setup
• Implement new solutions based on team roadmap and hardware/OS capabilities
• Install new OS and major subsystem releases with client timing/testing
• Maintain templates in golden/sandbox environments
• Participate in infrastructure projects as IBM i SME
