Job summary

Tokio Marine HCC International is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Underwriter with a middle-market focus to develop and manage a profitable E&S construction book. This remote role emphasizes marketing to brokers, building a regional presence, and handling larger, more complex accounts with minimal supervision.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of E&S construction underwriting, a proven book of business (roughly $3M–$5M+), and a strong production mindset.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of E&S construction underwriting experience
• Experience underwriting middle‑market construction accounts
• Demonstrated ownership of a sizeable book of business, ideally $3M–$5M or more
• Experience marketing to brokers and developing business relationships
• Ability to work independently and build a territory with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

• Evaluate new and renewal policy applications and related documents to classify and assess each risk, determine acceptability, assign rating, indicate endorsements and limits, and determine appropriate pricing.
• Contact and respond to verbal and written inquiries from brokers within designated timeframe to provide appropriate information and serve as an underwriting resource.
• Create and maintain all documentation (physical and electronic) including new and renewal bound files, underwriting worksheets, documentation of phone conversations, and other key documents according to departmental guidelines.
• Adhere to all company underwriting authority directives, guidelines, and policies and procedures.
• Approve or deny within given authority or recommend approval or denial to higher authority.
• Cultivate relationships with internal and external contacts to facilitate underwriting, promote business development, and stay abreast of industry trends.
• Serve as a resource to other departmental staff regarding underwriting procedures and guidelines.
• Develop understanding of factors that affect and influence policy rating and risk.
