Job summary

Lumen’s Network as a Service (NaaS) platform delivers on-demand networking at scale. As Lead SRE, you’ll own the reliability of that platform—partnering with operations teams and development counterparts to drive technical direction and resolve systemic issues across a broad range of network topologies and applications.

You’ll oversee observability, incident management, and automation, coordinating across architecture, engineering, and systems to measurably improve reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, CS, or related field.
• 8+ years in software development, systems engineering, and/or networking.
• 5+ years of related experience.
• Hands-on with AWS, Azure, or GCP including compute, networking, and identity services.
• Strong automation and IaC skills: Terraform, Ansible, and Python.
• Experience running containerized workloads on Kubernetes.
• Working knowledge of observability and monitoring tools (Datadog, CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus).
• Experience with incident management and blameless postmortems.
• Comfort using AI-assisted development and agentic tools.
• Understanding of network technologies including Internet, Ethernet, IPVPN, Edge Compute, and Optical transport.
• Strong listening and communication skills with autonomy and escalation where needed.

Responsibilities

• Reliability & Observability: be SME for platform apps, services, hosting environments.
• Build and maintain observability stack with metrics, dashboards, and visualizations.
• Define and tune proactive alerting to surface issues early.
• Champion SRE principles—SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.
• Incident Management: participate in on-call rotation and lead response.
• Postmortems and root-cause analysis with follow-up actions.
• Prevent recurrence through process improvements and tooling.
• Automation & Infrastructure: automate pipelines and IaC provisioning.
• Develop tools to reduce toil and empower teams.
• Apply AI-assisted workflows to development, support, and investigation.
• Collaboration & Leadership: work with cross-functional teams and mentor juniors.
• Maintain documentation for processes and architecture.
