Job summary

Lumen is seeking a Lead SRE to own the reliability of the NaaS platform, partnering with operations and development to drive direction and resolve systemic issues across topologies and apps. You will own observability, incident management, and automation while coordinating across architecture, engineering, and systems development teams.

Ideal candidates bring cloud platform experience, strong IaC skills, and a bias for automating repetitive work.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering, computer science, or related field.
8+ years in software development, systems engineering, and or networking.
5+ years of related experience required.
Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Strong automation and infrastructure-as-code skills: Terraform, Ansible, and Python.
Experience running containerized workloads on Kubernetes.
Working knowledge of observability and monitoring tools (Datadog, CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus).
Demonstrated experience with incident management and blameless postmortems.
Comfort using AI-assisted development and agentic tools.
Understanding of network technologies including Internet, Ethernet, IPVPN, Edge Compute, and Optical transport.
Strong listening and communication skills; autonomous with good elevation sense.

Responsibilities

Reliability & Observability: Serve as SME for network automation platform apps and hosting environments.
Build and maintain observability stack; instrument services, collect metrics, and create dashboards.
Define and tune proactive alerting to surface issues early.
Champion SRE principles — SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets; advocate for resilient architectures.
Incident Management: participate in on-call rotation and lead incident response.
Drive blameless postmortems and root cause analysis; follow through actions to completion.
Prevent recurrence via process improvements, tooling, and knowledge sharing across teams.
Automation & Infrastructure: automate CI/CD pipelines and cloud provisioning with IaC.
Develop tools to reduce toil; empower ops and dev teams to manage services.
Apply AI-assisted workflows to development, support, and investigation work.
Collaboration & Leadership: collaborate with cross-functional teams to scale NaaS apps.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers; maintain docs for processes and architecture.
