Job summary

Lumen is seeking a Lead SRE to own the reliability of the NaaS platform, partnering with operations and development teams to improve observability, incidents, and automation. You’ll drive AI-assisted tooling and scalable infrastructure across cloud environments.

The role emphasizes collaboration with architecture, engineering, and systems development, mentoring junior engineers and maintaining clear documentation for processes and architecture. Fully remote in the United States.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, CS, or related field.
• 8+ years in software development, systems engineering, or networking.
• 5+ years of related experience.
• Hands-on with AWS/Azure/GCP cloud platforms.
• IaC skills: Terraform, Ansible, and Python.
• Experience running containerized workloads on Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of observability tools: Datadog, CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus.
• Incident management with blameless postmortems.
• Comfort using AI-assisted development tools.
• Understanding of modern networking basics.
• Strong listening and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Reliability & Observability: lead platform observability and define SLIs/SLOs.
• Incident Management: participate in on-call rotation and drive response.
• Automation & Infrastructure: automate CI/CD and IaC provisioning.
• Develop tools to reduce toil for operations and development teams.
• Apply AI-assisted workflows to development and investigation tasks.
• Collaboration & Leadership: mentor engineers and document processes.
