Job summary

Lumen is seeking a Lead SRE to own the reliability of the Network as a Service (NaaS) platform. You will partner with operations and development to drive technical direction, tackle systemic issues, and improve observability across a broad range of network topologies and applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, CS, or related field.
• 8+ years in software development, systems engineering, and/or networking.
• 5+ years of related experience in SRE/operations.
• Hands-on with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Strong automation and IaC skills: Terraform, Ansible, and Python.
• Experience running containerized workloads on Kubernetes.
• Working knowledge of observability and monitoring tools (Datadog, CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus).
• Experience with incident management and blameless postmortems.
• Comfort using AI-assisted development and agentic tools.
• Understanding of network technologies: Internet, Ethernet, IPVPN, Edge Compute, Optical transport.

Responsibilities

• Own reliability and observability of the NaaS platform.
• Serve as SME for network automation platform apps, services, and environments.
• Build and maintain observability stack with dashboards and metrics.
• Define and tune proactive alerts to surface issues early.
• Champion SRE principles (SLIs/SLOs and error budgets).
• Participate in on-call rotation and lead incident responses.
• Drive blameless postmortems and root cause analysis.
• Improve processes, tooling, and knowledge sharing across teams.
• Automate deployment pipelines (CI/CD) and infrastructure provisioning.
• Develop tools to reduce toil and empower teams.
• Apply AI-assisted and agentic workflows to development and support.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to scale NaaS apps.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Maintain documentation for processes and architecture.
