Job summary

Lumen is seeking a Lead Site Reliability Engineer to own the reliability of the Network as a Service platform. You will partner with operations and development teams to drive technical direction, improve observability, and automate deployment and incident response across multi‑cloud environments.

In this fully remote US role, you’ll guide incident management, implement AI‑assisted tooling, and mentor junior engineers while aligning with NaaS goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, CS, or related field.
• 8+ years in software development, systems engineering, and/or networking.
• 5+ years of related experience.
• Hands-on with AWS/Azure/GCP including compute, networking, and identity services.
• Strong automation and infrastructure‑as‑code skills: Terraform, Ansible, and Python.
• Experience running containerized workloads on Kubernetes.
• Working knowledge of observability/monitoring tools (Datadog, CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus).
• Incident management experience and blameless postmortems.
• Comfort using AI‑assisted development and agentic tools as part of daily engineering practice.
• Understanding of network technologies including Internet, Ethernet, IPVPN, Edge Compute, and Optical transport.
• Strong listening and communication skills; autonomy while knowing when to elevate.

Responsibilities

• Reliability & Observability: own platform observability and dashboards.
• Incident management: participate in on‑call and lead incident response.
• Automation & Infrastructure: automate deployments and IaC provisioning.
• AI‑assisted workflows to speed development and investigation.
• Collaboration & Leadership: mentor juniors and document processes.
