Job summary

Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville is seeking a Full-time Inpatient Hospital Coder to join our Appeals & Denials Department at Baptist Metro Square. The role codes diagnoses and procedures for inpatient accounts using ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 when applicable.

You will review charts, support CDI/HIM, mentor staff, and ensure coding accuracy to optimize billing and A/R performance. Required RHIT/RHIA/CCS credentials and 3–5 years in acute care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma Required
• RHIT/RHIA or CCS certification required
• 3–5 years acute care coding experience

Responsibilities

• Identify and assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient accounts per state/federal rules.
• Assign CPT-4 codes on Observation accounts when applicable.
• Submit abstracted information to billing system for claims.
• Maintain 100% accuracy on discharged accounts to support Coding AR goals.
• Collaborate on ACHA, DNFB, post-bill error reports and denials.
• Advise and coordinate with Management, CDI, HIM on coding documentation.
• Mentor Coders and staff; assist with auditing and training.
• Demonstrate critical thinking, communication and time management.
• Proficient with encoder and EHR systems.
