Job summary

ABB is seeking a Senior Technical Business Developer to lead the expansion of the Grid Automation portfolio in the U.S. You will bridge advanced grid technologies with market penetration strategies, engaging utilities and partners to drive growth and develop solutions.

Remote work is available across the U.S., with preference for Cary, NC or Houston, TX. The role reports to the Product Marketing Director and the Global Portfolio Management of Grid Components.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
• 9+ years of experience in technical business development, preferably in grid automation or power systems.
• Deep understanding of U.S. utility market dynamics, standards (IEEE, IEC 61850), and digital substation architectures.
• Experience with SaaS or subscription-based business models in the energy sector.

Responsibilities

• Market strategy leadership — Drive U.S. growth by identifying new utility/industrial automation opportunities, shaping market penetration strategy, and securing product homologation with key utilities.
• Technical engagement — Act as a grid‑automation SME, lead pre‑sales technical activities, and support solution design across architectures, protection systems, and integration workflows.
• Standards influence — Contribute to vPAC and IEEE working groups, representing the company to help shape emerging grid automation standards and interoperability frameworks.
• Ecosystem & innovation — Build strategic partnerships, represent the company at industry forums, and channel field insights to evolve offerings like SSC600, SMU600, and CogniEN.
