Job summary

ABB is seeking a Senior Technical Business Developer to expand the Grid Automation portfolio in the U.S. market. You will lead market strategy, engage in presales technical activities, and shape standards while collaborating with utilities and partners.

This is a remote US-based role with preference for Cary, NC or Houston, TX. You’ll work with Product Marketing Directors and Grid Components teams to drive growth, influence interoperability, and develop solutions for utilities and industrial

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
• 9+ years of experience in technical business development, preferably in grid automation or power systems.
• Deep understanding of U.S. utility market dynamics, standards (IEEE, IEC 61850), and digital substation architectures.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with SaaS or subscription-based business models in the energy sector.
• Familiarity with DERMS, DLR, and network state estimation technologies.
• Ability to travel up to 30% - domestic and international - may be required.

Responsibilities

• Market strategy leadership: Drive U.S. growth by identifying new utility/industrial automation opportunities and shaping market penetration strategy.
• Technical engagement: Act as a grid automation SME, lead presales activities, and support solution design.
• Standards influence: Contribute to IEEE/IEC working groups and shape grid automation standards.
• Ecosystem & innovation: Build strategic partnerships and evolve offerings like SSC600, SMU600, and CogniEN.
