Job summary

ABB is seeking a Senior Technical Business Developer to lead the expansion of the Grid Automation portfolio in the U.S. market, bridging advanced grid tech with a focused market penetration strategy and driving growth through utility customer and partner engagements.

The role reports to the Product Marketing Director and is remote in the U.S., with preference for Cary, NC or Houston, TX. Travel up to 30% may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 9+ years in technical business development, preferably in grid automation.
• Deep knowledge of U.S. utility market and standards (IEEE, IEC 61850).
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with SaaS or subscription models in energy sector.

Responsibilities

• Market strategy leadership — Drive U.S. growth by identifying new utility/industrial automation opportunities, shaping market penetration strategy, and securing product homologation with key utilities.
• Technical engagement — Act as a grid‑automation SME, lead pre‑sales technical activities, and support solution design across architectures, protection systems, and integration workflows.
• Standards influence — Contribute to vPAC and IEEE working groups, representing the company to help shape emerging grid automation standards and interoperability frameworks.
• Ecosystem & innovation Build strategic partnerships, represent the company at industry forums, and channel field insights to evolve offerings like SSC600, SMU600, and CogniEN.
