Job summary

Vessel Advisors seeks a Financial Consultant (Controller+ level) to lead and facilitate their financial assessment engagements for growth-stage clients. You will own the assessment process from onboarding through six-week engagements to ongoing accounting support, partnering with CFOs, Controllers, and advisory partners.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience as a Controller.
• 5+ years of experience as an advisor or management consultant in-person.
• Able to lead intensive, all-day in-person meetings during onsite visits with clients.
• Proficient with cloud-based software.
• Deep project management skills with tight deadlines.
• Flexible and able to adapt to travel logistics.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; heavy Slack/email usage.
• Experience in multiple industries; Construction, Audit, or public accounting is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead Financial Assessments: run and facilitate intensive discovery sessions to evaluate client financial health and operational efficiency.
• Develop Financial Assessment Reports: create robust recommendations with Vessel SMEs.
• Financial Clean-up & Technical Integration: map remediation strategies to make books audit-ready.
• Advisory Mindset: turn inputs into clear next steps and recommendations.
• Executive Presence: lead owner/C-suite conversations with confidence.
• Real-Time Facilitation: think on your feet and adapt questions based on client responses.
• Engagement Leadership: own assessments end-to-end to ensure scope, timeline, quality.
• Contractor Management: direct Vessel contractors and enforce standards.
• Advice on Financial Decisions: provide financial direction and scenarios.
• Strategic Planning: identify and achieve clients' financial goals; guide forecasting.
• Project Management: own assessment schedules and deadlines.
• Policy Enforcement: establish internal controls and confidentiality.
• Relationship Building: build trusted client relationships.
• Guides financial decisions by establishing policies and procedures.
• Maximizes return and minimizes risk on cash; manage investments.
• Prepares budgets by collecting and analyzing data; plan recommendations.
• Achieves budget objectives by planning expenditures and corrective actions.
• Provides status of financial condition through data analysis and reporting.
• Prepares special reports and trends.
• Manages fixed asset depreciation and liabilities schedules.
• Reviews payroll and benefit liabilities monthly.
• Complies with laws and enforces requirements; liaises with auditors.
• Protects assets by internal controls.
• Monitors financial condition via audits and external reporting.
• Maintains financial staff through coaching and training.
