Job summary

Vessel Advisors is seeking a Consulting Controller to join our remote-first team. You will lead onsite financial assessments, deliver strategic roadmaps, and manage a portfolio of clients with high visibility into executive leadership.

A public accounting foundation and 8+ years in accounting are ideal, with CPA as a bonus. You will travel up to two times per month for 2-3 day client assessments, while enjoying a 100% remote work setup when not traveling.

Qualifications

3-5+ years of foundational experience in financial audit, assurance, or risk advisory at a public accounting firm.
8+ years in progressive accounting roles, including multi-client engagements or corporate financial operations.
Excellent ability to lead in-person discovery meetings and command executive stakeholders.
High proficiency in cloud accounting platforms (QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Sage Intacct) and modern finance tech stacks.
Obsessively organized and agile with travel schedules and a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Lead onsite financial assessments and multi-day discovery sessions with growth-stage CEOs and executive teams to evaluate financial health, internal controls, and bottlenecks.
Deliver strategic recommendations and partner with Vessel CFOs/Advisors to present actionable roadmaps to client leadership.
Serve as the lead Controller across a portfolio of recurring clients, overseeing month-end close, budgets/forecasts, and system optimizations.
Drive clean-up and integration of complex financial setups, identify risk areas, and establish internal controls to ensure audit readiness.
Direct and review the work of accounting staff and contractors to meet quality, budget, and scope targets.
