Job summary

Vessel Advisors is seeking a Consulting Controller to join our fully remote, travel-ready team. You will lead onsite discovery assessments with growth-stage CEOs, deliver strategic financial roadmaps, and manage a portfolio of client engagements as the lead Controller.

Ideal candidates bring public accounting experience, 8+ years in accounting leadership, and comfort presenting to C-suite executives while navigating complex conversations.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of foundational experience in financial audit, assurance, or risk advisory at a public accounting firm.
• 8+ years in progressive accounting roles leading multi-client engagements or corporate financial operations.
• Exceptional ability to lead in-person discovery meetings and to navigate complex conversations with executives.
• High proficiency in cloud accounting platforms (QBO, NetSuite, Sage Intacct) and modern finance tech stacks.
• Obsessively organized and adaptable to travel schedules in a 95% Slack / 70% client email environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead Onsite Financial Assessments: Facilitate 2-3 day in-person discovery sessions with growth-stage CEOs and executive teams to evaluate financial health and internal controls.
• Deliver Strategic Recommendations: Author assessment reports and present action-oriented roadmaps to client leadership.
• Fractional Controller Leadership: Serve as lead Controller across a portfolio of recurring clients, overseeing month-end close, budget/forecast builds, and system optimizations.
• Drive Clean-Up & Integration: Tackle complex financial setups, identify risk areas, and establish internal controls to make client books audit-ready.
• Lead Teams & Contractors: Direct and review work of accounting staff and contractors to ensure quality, budget, and scope targets.
