Job summary

Sanford Health in Rapid City, SD, is seeking a Patient Access Representative to provide exceptional service at the first point of contact, whether by phone or in-clinic. You will greet patients, verify demographics, collect payments, and support scheduling and registrations.

Responsibilities include coordinating referrals, handling pre-authorizations, and ensuring smooth patient flow from reception to treatment, with emphasis on accuracy and empathy.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One year of work experience, preferably in a medical office setting.
• Medical terminology helpful; customer service skills essential.
• BLS may be required for certain locations and/or settings.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and verify demographics.
• Create, scan and route documents or electronic forms.
• Inform patients about documents and capture signatures.
• Establish and assign financial responsibility; assist with arrangements per policy.
• Collect co-payments, pre-payments, and payments on account balances.
• May work through the registration work queue to address registration errors or denied insurance claims.
• Schedule appointments with nursing team and providers; coordinate referrals and pre-authorization.
• Arrange interpreter services; check patients in/out; operate multi-line phone.
• May resolve work queue issues, manage recalls and waitlists, and paging providers.
• Coordinate telemed appointments and remind patients of upcoming visits.
