Job summary

Des-Plaines-Public-Library is seeking a hardworking, customer-service oriented Patron Services Assistant to join our team. The role involves assisting patrons with accounts and materials, helping register for cards and programs, and performing outreach in the community.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable with busy environments, proficient with standard library systems, and able to work evenings, weekends, and a rotating Sunday shift. Starting pay is $18 per hour.

Qualifications

• Two years of college preferred.
• Two years library experience or two years retail customer service experience.
• Available to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Assist patrons with library accounts and materials.
• Register patrons for library cards, programs, and services.
• Fulfills interlibrary loan requests and reports statistics; maintains calendar and event bookings.
• Assists and instructs patrons with self-checks, automated materials handler, copier, and catalog.
• Reconciles patron accounts and processes payments for damaged/lost items.
• Maintains holds area, Quick Pick collections, and new Video Game collection.
• Compiles statistical data and may attend meetings/workshops.
• Performs clerical tasks and other duties as assigned.
