OC Public Libraries is seeking Librarians for three adult vacancies at the Westminster and Costa Mesa Branch Libraries. Candidates must possess a Master’s in Library Science and at least one year library experience. Responsibilities include identifying community needs, planning library programs, and assisting patrons. The OC Public Libraries (OCPL) is seeking Librarians to join an established team of professionals participating in progressive programs at branches throughout the county. OCPL currently has three adult librarian vacancies at the Westminster and Costa Mesa Branch Libraries. This list may be used for other vacancies in the Librarian classification.
OCPL is composed of thirty-four branch libraries located in twenty-four cities and the unincorporated areas of the County. OCPL has an annual budget of $35 million, approximately 500 employees, a collection of over 2.6 million volumes, an annual circulation of over seven million items and state of the art automated systems including a new SIRSI ILS. OCPL serves a diverse clientele of over 1.5 million people, develops collections in twelve languages, and offers the full range of contemporary public library services including 24/7 online reference and an adult literacy program.
Education: Associate Librarian – possession of a Master’s in Library Science/Library and Information Science within 90 days of appointment. Librarian – possession of a Master’s in Library Science/Library and Information Science AND one year library experience that demonstrates the abilities and knowledge referenced above.
Knowledge of: Collection development and management, including audio-visual and electronic resource selection, weeding and cataloging procedures; modern library policies, methods and practices; patron advisory methods and practices; and awareness of current developments in the librarian field and delivery of library services. Associate Librarian is the entry level in this series, and is designated to provide incumbents with the experience and training necessary to plan, organize, and provide library services at the journey level with a minimum of supervision within one year. The starting salary for Associates is $24.49 per hour.
