Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to apply expertise in protective relaying and controls for HV and EHV substations. You will lead design efforts, guide engineers, prepare relay philosophies, and coordinate with clients and vendors to deliver complete, timely solutions.

The role offers a hybrid work arrangement (three days in office, two remote) and a generous relocation package, with opportunities to mentor others and travel for design reviews and field verifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Engineering degree required.
• 12+ years experience designing substations at 138kV+.
• PE license required.
• Experience coordinating with clients and vendors as liaison.
• Experience in relay calculations documentation.
• Familiarity with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI codes and standards.

Responsibilities

• Apply protective relaying and controls knowledge to HV/EHV substations.
• Prepare relay philosophies and SCADA/telecom concepts.
• Guide junior and senior engineers in protection and controls design.
• Troubleshoot and resolve engineering issues.
• Design single line diagrams, relaying, metering and DC schematics.
• Prepare and review engineering studies and calculations.
• Coordinate with clients, vendors, and project managers.
• Review existing facilities for upgrades and present recommendations.
