Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to apply expertise in protective relaying and controls for HV/EHV substations. You will lead design efforts, mentor staff, and coordinate with clients and vendors to deliver thorough, compliant solutions.

The role offers a hybrid work arrangement with three days in the office and two remote days, plus relocation assistance depending on location. A BS in Engineering and a PE license are essential, with 12+ years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required.
• 12+ years of substations design at 138kV+.
• PE license is required.
• Experience liaising with clients in a lead role.
• Experience documenting relay calculations and designs.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation modifications and upgrades with calculations and specs.
• Prepare relaying philosophies and SCADA/telecom concepts.
• Guide engineers in protection and controls design.
• Troubleshoot and solve engineering issues across projects.
• Design single line diagrams and relaying/metering schemes.
• Prepare studies for client and peer reviews.
• Review others' work including drawings and calculations.
• Coordinate with engineers, PMs, clients and vendors.
• Assess existing facilities for upgrades and present findings.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and travel as needed.
• Travel to client/vendor sites for reviews and field verification.
• Hybrid work: three days in office, two remote.
