Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to apply expertise in protective relaying and controls for HV/EHV substations. You will lead an engineering and design team through upgrades, develop relay philosophies, and coordinate with clients and vendors.

A PE license and 10+ years of experience are expected, with a potential relocation package based on location. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement, with three days in the office and two remote, plus opportunities for travel to

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Engineering degree required.
• 10+ years experience in protection / control / telecommunications for high voltage substations, including design, installation, and coordination.
• PE license.
• Experience serving as firm/client liaison in a lead engineering role.
• Experience in relay calculations documentation.
• Experience with techniques, tools and principles for producing technical plans, drawings and models.
• Proficiency with SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, CDEGS or vendor software.
• Familiarity with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI standards.
• Experience with protective relay equipment (SEL, ABB, GE, Areva, Basler).
• MS Office proficiency.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering and design team on substation modifications and upgrades.
• Prepare relaying philosophies and configurations for SCADA and telecom concepts.
• Guide junior and senior engineers in protection and controls design.
• Investigate and troubleshoot a wide range of engineering issues.
• Design single line diagrams, relaying and metering diagrams.
• Prepare engineering studies for client and peer review.
• Perform independent reviews of calculations and drawings.
• Coordinate with engineers, PMs, clients, and vendors for timely design.
• Review existing facilities for upgrades and present findings.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and share knowledge via Communities of Practice.
• Possible travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and field verification.
