Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to apply expertise in protective relaying and controls for HV and EHV substations. You will lead a design team, define relay philosophies, and coordinate with clients, vendors, and project managers to deliver complete, compliant solutions.

The role emphasizes mentoring, detailed design oversight, and occasional travel to client sites. A BS in Engineering and a PE license are required with 10+ years of related experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Engineering degree required or equivalent.
• 10+ years of protection/control/telecommunications experience for HV substations.
• PE license and client liaison experience.
• Experience writing relay calculation support documentation.
• Familiarity with NEC/NESC/NEMA/IEEE/ANSI standards and vendor equipment.
• Proficiency with MS Office; strong written and verbal communication.
• ABET accreditation is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering and design team on substation upgrades and modifications.
• Prepare relay philosophies and configure SCADA/telecom concepts.
• Guide junior/senior engineers in protection and controls design.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve engineering issues.
• Analyze single line diagrams, relaying, metering, and DC schematics.
• Prepare engineering studies and conduct independent design reviews.
• Coordinate with engineers, project managers, clients, and suppliers.
• Review existing facilities for upgrades and present findings.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and participate in Communities of Practice.
• Travel to client/vendor offices and plant sites as needed.
