Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to apply protective relaying and control systems knowledge to HV/EHV substations. You will lead a design team, prepare relay philosophies, coordinate with clients, and mentor junior staff.

This role supports hybrid work with three days in office and relocation options depending on location. Essential requirements include a BS in engineering, 10+ years in protection/control/telecommunications, PE license, and proficiency in SKM/ETAP/CDEGS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Engineering degree.
• 10+ years experience with protection, control and telecommunications for high voltage substations; including design, installation, and coordination.
• PE license.
• Experience serving as firm/client liaison in a lead engineering role.
• Experience writing relay calculations.
• Familiarity with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI.
• Experience with SEL, ABB, GE, Areva, Basler protective relay equipment.
• Proficiency with MS Office.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead an engineering and design team on substation modifications and upgrades.
• Prepare relaying philosophies and configurations for SCADA/telecom concepts.
• Guide junior and senior engineers in protection and controls design.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve engineering issues.
• Design single line diagrams and relay/metering diagrams.
• Prepare engineering studies for client and peer review.
• Perform independent design reviews and calculations.
• Coordinate with engineers, project managers, clients and suppliers.
• Review existing facilities for upgrades and present recommendations.
• Mentor less experienced engineers; participate in Communities of Practice.
• Travel to client/vendor offices for design reviews and site coordination.
