Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to apply expertise in protective relaying and control systems for HV/EHV substations in a hybrid work arrangement. The role guides junior engineers, coordinates with clients, and oversees design activities from calculations to drawings for 138kV+ projects.

Responsibilities include leading relay configurations, SCADA concepts, and engineering studies, with opportunities to travel for design reviews and field verifications.

Qualifications

• BS degree from ABET-accredited engineering program.
• 12+ years designing substations at 138 kV+.
• PE license.
• Experience as firm/client liaison in lead role.
• Experience in relay calculation documentation.
• Proficiency with design tools (SKM/ETAP/ASPEN/CDEGS).
• Familiarity with NEC/IEEE/NEMA/ANSI standards.

Responsibilities

• Directly apply knowledge of protective relaying and controls for HV/EHV substations.
• Prepare relaying philosophies and SCADA/telecommunication concepts.
• Guide junior and senior engineers in protection and controls design.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve various engineering issues.
• Design single line diagrams, relaying/metering diagrams, and DC schematics.
• Prepare engineering studies for client and peer review.
• Perform independent reviews of calculations and drawings.
• Coordinate with engineers, project managers, clients, and suppliers.
