Strategic Advisory

The Strategic Advisory team renders advice to corporate clients in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, divestments, capital structure optimization and restructurings. We serve clients in the digital economy as well as in traditional industries, and we advise companies as they transform business models to address tech disruption and economic evolution. DBS has an expansive network of corporate clients in Asia, therefore we connect and advise large businesses, mid‑cap enterprises, financial sponsors and sovereign wealth funds as they pursue their growth plans and business objectives, particularly within the Energy, Renewables & Infrastructure sectors.

Responsibilities

Sustaining and expanding advisory relationships with C‑suite decision‑makers, business founders, and controlling shareholders through strategic dialogue, specifically within the Energy, Renewables & Infrastructure sectors.

  • Serving as a trusted advisor to clients as they fulfil strategic objectives and undertake complex M&A transactions, divestments, capital structure optimization, and restructurings in the ERI space.
  • Identifying, originating, and developing high‑value M&A deal leads to secure advisory roles for DBS within the Energy, Renewables & Infrastructure sectors.
  • Leading and overseeing the development of highly complex financial models to value debt and equity for strategic mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and sophisticated capital raising transactions within the ERI sectors, providing critical insights for executive decision‑making.
  • Directing the preparation, review, and presentation of high‑impact transaction materials, including comprehensive investment memoranda, compelling management presentations, and advanced pitchbooks for C‑suite and board‑level audiences, specifically tailored for M&A deals in ERI.
  • Orchestrating and guiding thorough due diligence processes, advanced research, in‑depth analysis, and meticulous documentation for intricate live M&A transactions within the ERI sectors, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Driving advanced analysis of energy/renewables/infrastructure asset and/or asset portfolio performance, identifying and implementing key strategic benchmarks for optimization, value creation, and risk mitigation across large‑scale ERI portfolios, often in the context of M&A.
  • Proactively identifying and cultivating relationships with potential sellers, buyers, and institutional investors through sophisticated market analysis, stakeholder engagement, and a deep understanding of evolving market dynamics within the Energy, Renewables & Infrastructure M&A landscape.
  • Forging and managing strategic collaborations with critical external stakeholders (e.g., senior consultants, regulatory bodies, external legal counsels) to catalyze innovative M&A deal ideation, strategic pipeline development, and complex transaction execution in the ERI sectors.
  • Leading the execution, comprehensive management, and expert advisory on high‑value potential M&A transactions, encompassing inter alia, meticulous deal evaluation, advanced feasibility studies, innovative deal structuring, and effective negotiation strategies within Energy, Renewables & Infrastructure.

Contributing significantly to the strategic planning and business development initiatives of the Corporate and Investment Banking division, with a particular focus on expanding the ERI M&A franchise.

  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements applicable to transactions undertaken within the relevant jurisdictions.
  • Mentoring junior team members, coaching them to build skill sets and supporting their career pathways in ERI M&A.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics or related quantitative disciplines from a reputable university. A Master's degree or CFA designation is highly preferred.
  • 9 years of Investment banking experience, with a proven track record of successfully originating and executing complex M&A transactions.
  • Client relationships at C‑suite and/or with business founders and controlling shareholders, with experience in engaging high‑level stakeholders.
  • Proven record of leading buy‑side and sell‑side M&A transactions, public takeovers, restructurings, and capital raises from strategic or financial investors.
  • Extensive prior working experience and a deep understanding of M&A.
  • Team player with a willingness to share knowledge and best practices, fostering a collaborative and high‑performing team culture.
  • Exceptional project leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage large project teams and diverse internal and external stakeholders effectively.
  • Collaborative and demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues across cultures and countries.
