A major media company in Singapore is looking for a skilled Special Effects Makeup Artist. The role involves designing and applying special effects makeup to bring characters to life, collaborating with creative teams, and ensuring high-quality outcomes under tight deadlines. Candidates should have a Diploma in Makeup Artistry and 3-5 years of experience in related fields. Strong creativity and attention to detail are essential, along with good communication skills to work effectively with production teams.
Create and employ special effects makeup to bring characters and visual concepts to life across Drama, Entertainment, and other productions. Work collaboratively with production teams to deliver realistic, imaginative, and high-quality makeup effects that align with creative direction, production schedules, and set budgets.
Collaborate with production and creative teams to interpret makeup and character design requirements for each project.
Design and apply special effects makeup, including prosthetics, aging, injuries, fantasy, and other transformative looks suited to the production's concept and aesthetic requirements.
Execute technical processes such as sculpting, mould‑making, casting, and painting of prosthetics and other special effects materials.
Ensure continuity of makeup looks across scenes and episodes by maintaining detailed documentation, photos, and product records.
Adhere to hygiene and safety standards when working with prosthetics, adhesives, and special effects materials.
Work efficiently under tight deadlines, ensuring all looks are completed on schedule and within production constraints.
Stay current with trends, techniques and innovation in makeup artistry, prosthetics, and materials to enhance production quality.
Support general makeup and hairstyling needs for productions as required, ensuring looks remain consistent with overall programme aesthetics.
Maintain proper organisation and inventory of makeup tools, prosthetic materials and equipment to support production readiness.
Perform any other related duties assigned by production management or the head of department.
Diploma or Professional Certificate in Makeup Artistry / Special Effects Makeup / Prosthetics Design from a recognised institution.
Proven experience in prosthetics, airbrushing, mould-making, sculpting, and character transformation techniques.
Strong understanding of makeup and hair beauty trends, including integration of special effects in various production genres.
Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant working experience in television, film, theatre, or related environments.
Creative and detail‑oriented, with the ability to transform concepts into visually compelling and realistic effects.
Good communication and teamwork skills, and the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Added advantage for proficiency in both makeup and hairstyling to support broader production requirements.
Technical Proficiency: Skilled in prosthetic application, airbrushing, body painting, silicone and latex work, and blending special effects makeup seamlessly with natural features.
Creativity and Design Sense: Ability to conceptualise and execute original looks aligned with character, script, and visual tone.
Attention to Detail: Strong eye for precision and continuity, ensuring consistency across takes and episodes.
Collaboration: Effective team player who can work closely with production, costume, and lighting departments to achieve cohesive visual results.
Time Management: Able to prioritise tasks and perform efficiently under tight deadlines and fast-paced shooting environments.
Work Fast: Able to perform efficiently and accurately under tight time constraints, ensuring artistes are ready for shoots as scheduled.
Adaptability: Flexible and resourceful in handling last‑minute production changes or makeup adjustments.
Health & Safety Awareness: Familiar with proper sanitation, allergic reactions and prevention, and safe handling of materials and chemicals.
