Job description

In this role, you will build and operate (with SRE support) Cloud Interconnect, which virtualizes our edge and backbone and allows enterprise customers to connect their on‑premises data centers/networks to GCP at 100 and 10 Gb/s speed. Interconnect has been a key feature for GCP to onboard large enterprises and is therefore a high‑impact project. You will also connect smaller customers through partners and build ultra‑low‑latency interconnects so customers can use large file stores and databases operated by third‑parties adjacent to (but not within) Google data centers. You will manage complexity from physical networks and routers through cloud virtualization.

You will help grow and manage a team in Hybrid Networking and Cloud Interconnect – a developer team with a strong and rapidly growing Cloud Product, lots of interesting technical work, and interesting operational requirements.

Job responsibilities

• Recruit, hire, and lead a brand new team of engineers, establishing a center of excellence for cloud networking technology in the Singapore development center.
• Develop and execute the long‑term technical goal and roadmap for differentiating hybrid Cloud networking products, ensuring their availability, reliability, and performance.
• Mentor and grow a team of talented engineers. Set clear expectations, provide consistent feedback and coaching, and foster a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
• Guide the design and architecture of complex, large‑scale distributed systems. Write and review code to solve ambiguous problems and ensure adherence to best practices in accuracy, testability, and efficiency.
• Align strategy, processes, and decision‑making across multiple teams in various geographic locations to deliver time‑sensitive programs and meet future infrastructure needs.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development in one of the following: C++, Go, Java, or Python.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
• 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
• Ability to communicate in Mandarin and English fluently to partner with local clients and regional partners.

Preferred qualifications

• Master’s Degree or PhD in Computer Science, or in a related technical field.
• 10 years of experience with software engineering, with 5 years in technical leadership and people management.
• Experience in the design, implementation, and delivery of scalable build/test/release infrastructure.
• Experience developing and leading teams with networking and distributed systems products.
