Service Engineer - Merchant Automation
Kongsberg Maritime is hiring a Field Service Engineer to join our Global Customer Support team in Singapore. You will be responsible for commissioning, servicing, and maintaining KONGSBERG systems and sensors onboard ships worldwide, as well as providing remote support and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will have experience with Alarm Monitoring Systems (AMS), propulsion and steering control systems, and a strong understanding of main engines and thrusters. You’ll also work with systems like Bearing Wear Condition Monitoring, Sentry®, MetaPower Quad, and K-CMS.
What you will be doing
- Provide customer support, commissioning, and service for Kongsberg Maritime Merchant Automation products, including Machinery Instrumentation and Condition Monitoring Systems.
- Perform installation, commissioning, service, and maintenance onboard vessels worldwide.
- Offer technical support, remote service, and guidance to customers, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
- Manage and execute service activities across Southeast Asia, maintaining strong relationships with existing clients.
- Generate service reports, update technical documentation (e.g., drawings, cable information), and assist in product development and sales support.
- Support project management for refit/retrofit projects and provide backend assistance to the service team.
- Assist the sales department with technical inquiries and engage in product innovation initiatives.
- Handle pre- and post-service administrative tasks and undertake ad-hoc duties as required.
We think you should have
- Diploma or Degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Instrumentation/Automation, or Mechanical Engineering; relevant experience may substitute formal education.
- 3-5 years of experience in Alarm Monitoring & Control Systems, and Automation, with strong knowledge of computer hardware, peripherals, and basic software.
- Experience in onboard ship Automation Systems (controls, propulsion), Distributed Control Systems, Power Management System, and mechanical/electromechanical systems (engines, rotating equipment).
- Relevant experience in the maritime industry, shipping, or offshore oil & gas installations is a plus.
- Ability to travel overseas on short notice.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in English.
- Strong project management, problem-solving, and self-motivation skills.
- Service-oriented with a passion and patience for customer handling.
- Independent, self-driven with a methodical, systematic approach to tasks.
- Ability to cooperate well in teams, share knowledge, and contribute to a working environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
