Job Description
The Senior Platform Engineer will lead the development and operation of a unified internal platform (developer portal + feature-flag & experimentation services) that enables engineering teams to self-service common infrastructure, safely release features, and adopt a “paved-road” approach. This role ensures platform standards, automation, security, compliance, and observability are embedded from day one while enabling speed and autonomy across product teams.
Accountabilities
- Lead and mentor junior platform engineers in building and maintaining the internal platform.
- Design, implement, and evolve the developer portal based on Backstage, including catalog, templates, docs, service onboarding, and developer workflows.
- Architect, deploy, and operate the feature-flagging and experimentation framework using GrowthBook (or equivalent), enabling controlled rollouts, A/B testing, and metrics-driven experiments.
- Define, enforce, and continuously improve platform standards/templates for infrastructure, security, compliance, cost, and observability. Collaborate with Platform Architect, Shared Services Manager, and application teams to align platform roadmap and adoption of the paved-road approach.
Responsibilities
- Customize Backstage — configure catalog, templates, TechDocs, plugins, CI/CD /infrastructure integrations, onboarding flows, and maintain documentation.
- Deploy and maintain GrowthBook (or similar) — configure feature flags, integrate SDKs with services, define experiment workflows, manage metrics, and ensure secure, performant flag evaluations.
- Build reusable “paved-road” templates (infra + code + deployment + feature-flag integration + observability + cost guardrails).
- Implement observability dashboards, logging, tracing, and alerts for platform services to monitor health, performance, and adoption metrics.
- Integrate security and compliance checks into platform templates and automation, aligned with CSA best practices and MAS-TRM guidelines.
- Lead platform onboarding for engineering teams — guide usage of portal/templates/flags, educate on best practices, enforce governance, and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
- Monitor platform adoption, usage, cost efficiency, flag rollout effectiveness, experiment outcomes, and iterate on tooling.
Experience
- Experience in medium-to-large technology or financial services organizations with complex cloud-native environments and multiple engineering teams; exposure to enterprise-grade developer platforms or internal tooling initiatives.
Seniority, Skills, Certifications (must-haves)
- Have 8+ years of experience in platform engineering or cloud infrastructure.
- Strong expertise in AWS (EKS, RDS, Elasti Cache, IAM, VPC, observability), container orchestration, IaC/CaC, and platform automation
- Hands-on experience with Backstage or similar developer portals and feature-flag/experimentation platforms (GrowthBook, LaunchDarkly, or equivalent)
- Familiarity with security/compliance standards (MAS-TRM, CSA)
- Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or DevOps-related certifications are a plus.
