Job description

Duties to be Performed:

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Fire Protection Systems will be responsible for designing and delivering mechanical systems for industrial properties in the semiconductor, electronics, biopharma, and related industries.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for Concept, Basic, and Detailed Design of Mechanical Fire Protection Systems, including Fire Sprinkler, Fire Hydrant, Fire Hose Reel in accordance with local and international codes.
  • Engineering design of Fire Protection and Detection Systems for new and existing industrial and commercial buildings, ensuring life safety and property protection.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and conceptual designs of Fire Protection Systems, evaluating system types (wet, dry, pre-action, deluge) and suppression strategies based on fire risk assessments.
  • Review of Fire Protection systems in preparation for testing, commissioning, and validation, ensuring systems function per design intent and performance criteria.
  • Provide engineering services for tendering, including preparing technical specifications, BOQ, SOW, conducting site show rounds, and briefing bidders on fire protection packages.
  • Develop detailed project plans for Fire Protection scope, including tracking of design milestones, procurement schedules, installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including Fire Protection Calculations, Hydraulic Calculations, Material Submittals, and As-Built Drawings.
  • Liaise with clients to understand project-specific fire safety goals and regulatory requirements, and clarify detailed briefs for each fire protection system design.
  • Clearly define and align inter-discipline technical interfaces (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Architectural) and scope demarcation for fire protection systems.
  • Work with CAD Drafters and BIM Modelers to guide system modeling, verify routing of pipes and equipment locations, and conduct field verification to ensure installation compliance.
  • Perform Friction Loss Calculations for piping networks, determine pump head requirements, and estimate Power Requirements for fire pumps and associated equipment.
  • Conduct Fire Risk Assessments and Smoke Control Calculations, and perform system design analyses for compliance with local codes and international standards.
  • Promote safe working practices, ensuring all fire protection systems are designed and installed to protect the health and safety of employees, contractors, and clients.
  • Liaise closely with QA/QC Engineers to ensure inspections, testing and system commissioning are aligned with approved fire protection specifications and quality standards.
Qualifications
  • You should have a bachelor's degree in mechanical.
  • You should have sound experience in mechanical systems in designing and installation works related to semiconductors, biopharma, laboratories, data centres, or process buildings.
  • You should be familiar with Singapore’s latest codes, standards, guidelines, regulations, and authorities’ requirements. Your familiarity with available equipment, modern technology, construction methods, and CAD/ BIM is an added advantage.
  • You should be able to advise clients and engineers on project execution, supervising progress, and quality of work.
  • Willing to travel / relocate.
