Job description
What the role is:

The role leads NYP’s overarching media, content, and brand communication strategies to elevate the institution’s visibility and reputation across internal and external platforms. As a seasoned communications professional, he/she will lead strategic communications initiatives, spearhead media relations efforts, and ensure consistency in communication practices within NYP. He/she will oversee teams, mentor staff, and steer communication systems and processes that support NYP’s organisational objectives. He/she will also build strong networks with industry, government, and media partners to identify trends, anticipate communication needs, and advance NYP’s brand positioning.

What you will be working on:
Strategic Communications & Brand Positioning
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic communication plans that strengthen NYP’s brand as an innovative and future‑ready polytechnic.
  • Oversee initiatives across owned and earned platforms, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and brand standards.
  • Provide evaluative judgement and expert guidance on communication strategies across departments to ensure consistency in narratives and practices.
Media Relations & Crisis Communication
  • Lead and manage media relations, including media strategy, pitching, and engagements.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with media, government agencies, industry partners, and key stakeholders to secure impactful coverage and profile opportunities.
  • Oversee crisis communication frameworks, ensuring timely, accurate, and coordinated responses, and guiding teams to adhere to established protocols.
Content Management & Editorial Governance
  • Oversee content strategy and editorial governance for NYP’s owned platforms, including digital channels and publications.
  • Develop and refine content lifecycle processes, quality standards, and performance measurement frameworks.
  • Ensure content consistency, accuracy, and strategic alignment across teams and departments.
Communication Workflow & Process Improvement
  • Manage communication workflows and systems, identifying areas for improvement through data analysis and stakeholder feedback.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement using data analysis, stakeholder insights, and industry best practices.
  • Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency through creative ways to amplify content.
Stakeholder Engagement & Research
  • Lead stakeholder engagement efforts to inform communication strategies and content development.
  • Provide data-driven insights to support management’s operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Establish networks with industry partners to stay informed of emerging trends, shifting audience behaviours, and best practices.
Team Leadership & People Development
  • Lead one or more teams of staff, providing direction, coaching, and mentorship to ensure high‑quality output and professional growth.
  • Lead inter-departmental projects and initiatives to advance NYP’s strategic objectives.
What we are looking for:
  • Relevant qualification in communications, journalism, public relations, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in strategic communications, media relations, and multi‑platform content management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and teams with moderate complexity and risk.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in data‑driven communication and content performance analysis.
Skills & Competencies
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English; proficiency in a mother tongue is advantageous.
  • Strong media relations and networking capabilities.
  • Proven project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities under tight timelines.
  • Creative, resourceful, and detail‑oriented.
  • Analytical and data‑driven, with experience in assessing content performance and audience behaviour.
  • Ability to guide teams, influence stakeholders, and ensure adherence to communication standards and policies.
