We are seeking an experienced Senior Carbon Trader to significantly expand our carbon trading franchise within a dynamic, cross-commodities merchant trading firm. The ideal candidate will possess a formidable combination of a proven trading track record in both voluntary and compliance carbon markets, coupled with exceptional capabilities in the origination and structuring of offtakes, forwards, and bespoke client solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Trading & Risk Management

• Lead and expand a comprehensive carbon trading book, encompassing both proprietary and flow trading activities.
• Develop and execute sophisticated trading strategies across Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCM) and major compliance schemes (e.g., EU ETS, CORSIA, and national/regional schemes).
• Proactively manage market risk exposure, ensuring adherence to established Value-at-Risk (VaR) and capital limits.

Origination & Structuring

• Source, structure, and execute complex offtakes, forwards, and tailored solutions with project developers, corporations, and financial institutions.
• Establish and cultivate long-term supply partnerships across Nature-Based Solutions, Technology-Based projects, and Industrial carbon abatement initiatives.
• Collaborе with clients to deliver comprehensive carbon-neutral solutions and advanced carbon hedging strategies.
• Build and maintain robust relationships with key stakeholders, including project developers, airlines, utilities, industrials, and institutional investors.
• Represent the firm at industry conferences, working groups, and in regulatory consultation processes.

Key Requirements

• Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in commodities trading, with a mandatory focus of at least 5 years specifically within carbon markets.
• Performance: A demonstrable and strong P&L track record derived from active trading in voluntary and/or compliance markets.
• Origination Proficiency: Hands-on experience successfully closing structured deals, not merely pricing them.
• Technical Knowledge: Deep working knowledge of major registries and standards (e.g., Verra, Gold Standard) and core compliance schemes (e.g., EU ETS, CORSIA).
• Commercial Acumen: Possesses a keen commercial edge, characterized by strong negotiation skills, established relationships, and high credibility with counterparties.
• Market Agility: Proven ability to navigate fast-moving markets effectively and make decisive risk/reward judgments.
