What the role is:

At the Ministry of Finance, Economic Programmes Directorate, you shape policies and investments that drives Singapore’s economy. Our Directorate partners closely with economic and regulatory agencies to strengthen Singapore’s competitiveness, help local enterprises thrive, foster innovation and create quality jobs for Singaporeans. We do so through determining how resources (including grants, tax incentives, loans, equity, and other tools) are allocated across economic programmes.

What you will be working on:

As part of our team, you will work with agencies across Government to align strategies, policies and resources to deliver on our national economic priorities, including:

  • Economic strategy and competitiveness
  • Research, innovation & enterprise development
  • Digital economy and AI
  • Local enterprise development
  • Decarbonisation, energy transition, and the green economy

Specific examples of portfolios you may take up include:

  • a. Research, Innovation & Enterprise (RIE): We shape RIE outcomes and strengthen the innovation system via resourcing and pathfinding. We set the overall budget in line with our commitment to allocate ~1% of Singapore’s GDP to RIE and strengthen RIE KPIs to reflect our ambition to translate research to commercialisation.
  • b. Energy & Carbon: We work closely with partner agencies to drive Singapore’s transition towards a low‑carbon economy, while safeguarding energy security and cost‑competitiveness. We develop and steward resourcing and financing frameworks fit for the low‑carbon era, enabling investments in clean energy and carbon mitigation while ensuring public resources are deployed efficiently, credibly and at scale.
  • c. Digital Economy and AI: We support Singapore’s ambition to become a global AI hub, through initiatives to attract top talent and companies, and building the AI capabilities of local enterprises and workers to improve productivity, competitiveness and value creation.
What we are looking for:
  • Background in finance, economics and/or accounting will be advantageous

About Ministry of Finance

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) is responsible for managing Singapore’s fiscal policies and the structure of its economy. We work to maintain international standards and best practices in areas such as company law, accounting standards, and corporate governance principles. We aim to advance the well‑being and development of Singapore by:

  • achieving a balanced budget through prudent and sustainable fiscal policies;
  • ensuring the prudent investment of the government's reserves and other public funds;
  • setting out policies for government procurement, customs regulation, accounting standards and business regulation;
