Job description
Overview

The ROV Pilot will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of remotely operated hull-cleaning robots used for underwater maintenance of vessels and marine structures. This role requires technical expertise in ROV handling, troubleshooting, and repair, as well as knowledge of hull cleaning processes. The ROV Pilot will ensure that robotic systems are operated, maintained, and serviced in compliance with international standards (e.g., IMS biofouling regulations, class & port authority requirements).

Responsibilities
  • Operate and navigate hull-cleaning ROV systems to perform underwater cleaning, polishing, and inspection tasks.
  • Conduct pre- and post-job equipment checks, ensuring all systems are fully operational.
  • Monitor live video and sensor data to ensure effective hull cleaning while avoiding damage to vessel coatings or structures.
  • Troubleshoot technical faults in electrical, hydraulic, and control systems during operations.
  • Carry out minor repairs, adjustments, and preventive maintenance on robotic cleaning equipment.
  • Escalate major breakdowns to the Technical Supervisor and assist in repair/replacement of critical components.
  • Support deployment, recovery, calibration, and testing of ROV systems.
  • Assist with data collection: video recordings, photography, and cleaning reports for client submission.
  • Coordinate with dive teams and supervisors on operational planning, safety procedures, and task sequencing.
  • Maintain logbooks, maintenance records, and daily reports of ROV operations.
  • Follow company safety protocols, IMCA/WSH guidelines, and contribute to continuous improvement of robotic cleaning operations.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Diploma or Certificate in Marine Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related technical field.
  • Experience: Minimum 1–2 years’ hands-on experience operating ROVs, underwater drones, or similar robotic systems. Prior exposure to underwater hull cleaning, ship repair, diving support, or subsea inspection preferred. Proven experience in troubleshooting and repairing electromechanical/robotic equipment.
  • Skills: Strong technical troubleshooting and repair ability in hydraulics, electronics, and robotics. Good spatial awareness, coordination, and ability to interpret video/sonar feedback. Effective communication and teamwork skills for coordination with dive teams and clients. Physically fit and adaptable to offshore/shipboard working conditions.
