Research Technologist (DMODT)

Job Category: Research

We are looking for a dedicated and keen-to-learn Research Technologist to join our lab under NCCS Division of Medical Oncology.

They will be involved in assisting in day-to-day laboratory maintenance, collection and processing of patient tissue and blood samples. They will be trained in basic molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA extraction from tumor tissue and FFPE samples. They will aid in processing of tumor tissue samples, with the opportunity to learn about primary organoid culture. They will learn how to process blood using density gradient centrifugation and will be required to keep proper inventory and documentation of the samples stored.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assist in laboratory maintenance

  • Weekly top up of laboratory consumables
  • Weekly refill of pipette tips for autoclave
  • Weekly checking of liquid nitrogen tank
  • Assist in cleaning of water bath and incubator water tray when needed
  • Prepare reagent or buffers when required

2. Assist in tissue logistics

  • Collection of patient samples (FFPE, Tissue, WBC, DNA or RNA) from Pathology
  • DNA/RNA extraction from frozen tissue or FFPE (weekly)
  • Submission of DNA/RNA samples to external sequencing partner

3. Assist in processing of blood

  • Ensure proper storage and inventory for isolated plasma, PBMC and other cell types isolated

4. Assist in cell culture

  • Help to change cell culture media when needed (cell culture, organoids)

Key Requirements:

  • Diploma in Biotechnology/Biomedical Science
  • Open to accepting candidates who are currently pursuing a part-time degree
  • Internship experience in diagnostic service laboratory or research laboratory
  • Independent worker, possess initiative to complete tasks and projects assigned
  • Highly adaptable and motivated to learn new techniques
