Overview

The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Assistant to join the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology’s newly established Core Support Faculty. The Department is dedicated to providing excellent and affordable care to patients, supported by clinical and translational research. The Core Support Faculty will be comprised of a Senior Research Fellow, a Bioinformatics Specialist and a Clinical Research Co-Ordinator / Clinical Research Assistant (clinical study recruitment, ethical approvals, data collection and management, sample acquisition). The successful applicant will work closely with other Core Support Faculty members to create a productive, collaborative environment. The role involves supporting nascent research projects across the NUS and NUH campuses, with a focus on developing preliminary data, publications, funding applications and investigator expertise to advance careers in obstetric and gynaecological research.

Appointments will be made on a one (1) year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for high-performing staff.

Purpose of the post

The Department has established a Core Support Faculty to drive research productivity and opportunity for emerging researchers, particularly junior investigators. Key deliverables include high-impact publications, rapid grant funding, increasing higher research degree candidacies (especially PhDs), technical training for the Department, and support of clinical trials. The successful applicant will report to the Director of Research and work with junior investigators from a broad range of obstetric and gynaecological disciplines, as well as senior Department members and Visiting Professors. The role emphasizes teamwork, productivity, collaboration and service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee the general management of delegated projects;
  • Provide administrative and secretarial support to delegated projects, such as organizing regular meetings to maintain communication with other research team members and collaborate with study sites and stakeholders;
  • Undertake day-to-day running of the project(s) at the study site, including collaboration with team members at study sites, recruitment, data collection, sample collection and management at hospital(s);
  • Conduct literature searches, use SPSS to enter data, analyse data and maintain trial databases, and assist in preparing progress and final reports of the project;
  • Maintain high standards of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures;
  • Manage ethical submissions and ongoing compliance, including PDPA;
  • Support the drafting of papers and funding applications;
  • Demonstrate the ability to multitask across multiple projects;
  • Coordinate grants related to Clinical Research and other types of research;
  • Provide logistics and administrative support;
  • Assist with any other duties delegated by the PI or supervisors.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field, nursing or equivalent; CRC experience (with a track record of supporting successful studies) is an advantage;
  • Ability to work meticulously, independently and as part of a team;
  • Good understanding of GCP, familiarity with research-based principles;
  • Knowledge of computer applications, e.g. SPSS, MS Office, PowerPoint;
