Responsibilities

About the team: Our Trust & Safety team's commitment is to keep our online community safe. We have invested heavily in human and machine-based moderation to remove harmful content quickly and often before it reaches our general community.

The Trust & Safety Policy team develops and reviews our community policies to promote a positive and safe environment for all of our Users and Content Creators to enjoy and express themselves. Specifically, the Regional High Harm Policy team is made up of expert policy ambassadors that drive a safe and joyful creator experience across policy, product development, and risk mitigation. We ensure that our Community Guidelines and policy principles are effectuated in all of the communities they serve. We are doubling down in our investment to minimize our highest harm areas that require local context and expertise across all features. Our goal is to ensure Bytedance products are safe and welcoming for a diversity of people, communities, and ideas. The team is working on investing in policy interventions that can efficiently address our highest severity harms across all feature sets. We are responsible for developing specialized policy enforcement strategies to enhance our ability to efficiently and accurately detect and remove high-harm content.

What will I be doing?

  • Draft, analyse and update policy documentation for Southeast Asian markets, which includes Philippines and/or Indonesia, by leveraging local insights which are in line with our global approach to Trust and Safety;
  • Formulate policy enforcement strategies for high-harm areas such as Hate, Violent Behaviors and Dangerous Actors, Mental Health, Integrity and Authenticity and Human Exploitation, specific to the Southeast Asian markets under your charge;
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of policy guidance and occasional training documents for the Philippines and/or Indonesia market and for high-harm policy areas, for moderators and other internal Trust and Safety teams;
  • Act as the policy point of contact for Philippines and/or Indonesia, in coordination with regional and global stakeholders, and respond to content related issues that might arise; Manage cross functional relationships with senior regional stakeholders. Collaborate with Policy, Product, Operations, Legal, Public Policy and Public Relations teams to build consensus on, and evolve, content policies where necessary;
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners and external experts to stay up-to-date on emerging social media trends in Philippines and/or Indonesia, to predict and prevent content violations of TikTok's Community Guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in policy development, policy enforcement, public policy or escalations management. Direct experience in the technology sector is a plus.
  • Deep understanding of the Philippines and Indonesia market, including regional socio-cultural norms and public discourse on content safety considerations;
  • Proficiency in Tagalog or Bahasa Indonesia is required to support users and stakeholders in the Philippines and Indonesia, and to ensure accurate policy assessment that reflects regional context, language, and cultural nuances.
  • Passionate about exploring how evolving technology, media dynamics, and cultural trends impact content safety and digital well-being.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to communicate complex ideas to multiple stakeholders;
  • An ability to formulate accurate and balanced policy assessments that are principled and defensible, in a dynamic environment or ambiguous situations;

  • An ability to work in a high tempo environment, adapt and respond to day-to-day challenges of the role;
  • An ability to prioritise, balance and thoughtfully execute the core responsibilities of the role along with critical policy related projects; and
  • We are looking for a motivated, collaborative and adaptive individual with a can do attitude that can work well as a team and take on the demands of the role.
