Principal Solution Architect (PSA)

About the Role

The Principal Solution Architect (PSA) reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and is a key member of the Technology Office (TO). You will lead product architecture design and standardization efforts to drive scalability, sustainability, and cost efficiency of technology stacks. The role also provides architectural and technical guidance to software delivery teams to ensure effective implementation of solutions aligned with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

Define Standards and Practices

• Lead the development of software architecture standards, technologies, and practices aligned with the companys vision and strategy.
• Monitor and evaluate emerging technologies for potential incorporation to maximize business value.
• Promote modern development methodologies such as Agile and DevOps in architecture and engineering practices.
• Support the CTO in reviewing and optimizing architecture frameworks, DevOps tools, workflows, and metrics.

Engineering and Delivery

• Lead the design and development of repeatable, scalable software components and modules across products and platforms.
• Provide technical guidance to delivery team leads, including troubleshooting, integration considerations, and architecture change management.
• Stay up to date with new technologies and recommend relevant tools or frameworks for adoption in product roadmaps.

Infrastructure and IT Operations

• Support the CTO in managing development and test infrastructure, including resource planning and infrastructure architecture reviews.

Innovation and R&D

• Collaborate with the CTO to identify and execute R&D initiatives involving cutting-edge technologies.
• Work with CTO and CPO to operationalize R&D projects and evaluate new tools, ideas, or partnerships.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

• Collaborate with other architects and leads within the Technology Office.
• Work with customer leads to ensure architectural standards align with client and project requirements.
• Engage proactively with users, partners, and key stakeholders to ensure alignment and feedback integration.

Risk Management and Security

• Identify relevant security standards and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.
• Incorporate security and risk mitigation considerations into architecture design and operational practices.

Competency Development

• Partner with the CTO to define and manage the technical competency roadmap for the organization.
• Drive knowledge-sharing initiatives to uplift architectural and engineering maturity across teams.

Requirements

• Proven experience designing solution architectures for secure, mission-critical IT systems.
• Strong background in cloud-based architectures (public or private) and related technologies/services.
• Proficient in Agile and DevOps practices, including automation and CI/CD pipelines.
• Understanding of emerging technologies (AI, cloud services, DevOps tools, etc.).
• Familiarity with government standards and customer preferences in regulated environments.
• Knowledge of key solution considerations such as performance, latency, scalability, and security.
• Experience with blueprint design, enterprise architecture frameworks, and modeling tools.
• Understanding of security threats, vulnerabilities, and best practices for mitigation.
• Strategic thinker with excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
