Junior System and Network Administrator
About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior System and Network Administrator to support the infrastructure behind training simulator projects for defense applications. This entry-level role is ideal for candidates with foundational IT knowledge who are eager to grow their skills in a secure, high-performance simulation environment. You will assist in maintaining systems, supporting project deployments, managing hardware assets, and coordinating with vendors under the guidance of senior staff.
Key Responsibilities
Project Support Duties
- Assist in setting up and configuring hardware and software for training simulators.
- Support the deployment and integration of simulation systems under the guidance of senior staff.
- Help document system configurations, network layouts, and deployment procedures.
- Participate in system testing and provide technical support during training sessions and demonstrations.
- Learn and apply best practices in secure system and network design for simulation environments.
System & Network Administration
- Perform basic system administration tasks such as user account setup, software installation, and patching.
- Monitor system health and report issues to senior administrators.
- Assist in managing network devices, including switches, firewalls, and routers.
- Support backup and recovery processes.
- Follow cybersecurity protocols and assist in maintaining compliance with defense IT standards.
Hardware & Vendor Management
- Assist in inventory tracking, setup, and maintenance of simulation hardware including servers, workstations, and peripherals.
- Coordinate with vendors for hardware procurement, delivery, and support services.
- Maintain records of warranties, service agreements, and vendor contacts.
- Support troubleshooting and escalation of hardware issues with external vendors.
Qualifications
Required
- Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of Windows/Linux systems and networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls).
- Familiarity with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper‑V) is a plus.
- Strong willingness to learn and grow in a project-based, secure IT environment.
- Eligible for or willing to obtain a security clearance.
Preferred
- Exposure to simulation platforms (e.g., VBS, Unity, Unreal Engine) or interest in defense training systems.
- Basic scripting knowledge (e.g., PowerShell, Bash).
- Good communication and documentation skills.
- Team-oriented mindset with a proactive attitude.
