Job description
Job Purpose

The Junior Medical Laboratory Technologist role involves processing and analysis of specimens from patients for the purposes of diagnosis, prevention, prognosis, and treatment of disease, and the entry, review and release of data pertaining to such specimens in the laboratory information system. The specimens include blood, urine, other body fluids, and tissue. The Junior Medical Laboratory Technologist supports Medical Laboratory Technologists, Senior Medical Laboratory Technologists, and pathologists in the total test process (pre‑analytical, analytical and post‑analytical).

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Specific

  • Receive test requests and specimens in the laboratory, and perform order entry for tests in the laboratory information system (LIS).
  • Perform testing of specimens from patients.
  • Prepare test requests and specimens for dispatch to referral laboratories, and follow up on test reports from referred laboratories, ensuring that they are available in LIS and NGEMR in a timely manner.
  • Assist in intra‑departmental audits and external quality assurance programmes.
  • Check billing for cases, and perform daily billing reconciliation, including billing amendments.
  • Manage inventory of consumable items.
  • Answer telephone calls within campus and from other institutions regarding patients’ results and service enquiries.

General

  • Perform duties in a professional manner, commensurate with academic and technical skills and training.
  • Adhere to laws, regulations, and hospital procedures and policies, including Personal Data Protection Act (2012), cybersecurity regulations, and occupational health and safety procedures, such as safe handling and disposal of biohazardous waste.
  • Uphold the visions and practices of Woodlands Health.
  • Perform other duties in laboratory, as assigned.
Job Requirements

Education, training and experience

  • Minimum of 5 GCE “O” levels or equivalent.
  • Diploma in biomedical science, or Institute of Technical Education certificate, or equivalent.
  • No experience of working in a clinical laboratory required.
