Job summary

A global commodity trading firm in Singapore is seeking a Junior Freight Trader to assist in daily trading activities and develop third-party relationships. The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of tanker chartering experience and strong communication skills. This position involves market analysis and supporting transaction execution, making it essential that applicants are team-oriented and client-focused.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in Tanker chartering, familiar with major cargo/routes in the Pacific.
  • Prior work experience in an Operating setup with existing client network is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop third-party relationships to expand cargo flow opportunities.
  • Assist senior traders in daily freight trading activities across tanker segments.
  • Monitor freight markets, vessel positions, and flows to identify trading opportunities.
  • Perform freight rate analysis, voyage calculations, and risk/return assessments.
  • Support execution of physical and paper freight transactions (FFAs, hedging).
  • Liaise with shipbrokers, owners, charterers, and internal trading desks.
  • Maintain accurate records of trades, positions, and P&L exposure.
  • Prepare market reports, research, and updates for internal stakeholders.

Overview

Salling Search is recruiting a Junior Freight Trader (Tankers) for a global commodity trading firm based in Singapore.

Our client is particularly interested in individuals who are also passionate about automation and AI, have gained hands-on exposure, and possess the drive to streamline and digitalize processes within the maritime sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop third-party relationships to expand cargo flow opportunities.
  • Assist senior traders in daily freight trading activities across tanker segments.
