Iyo Bank Singapore Branch is the international hub of Iyo Bank, one of Japan’s leading regional financial institutions. As part of our strategic expansion in Asia, the Singapore office plays a key role in supporting global clients with sophisticated financial solutions particularly in the area of ship finance, which forms the core of our overseas business. The Head of Risk Management will be responsible for managing and overseeing the smooth middle-office operations of the Singapore Branch, mainly focusing on credit risk, liquidity risk, and operational risk in the field of ship finance. This position also plays a critical role in supporting senior management decision‑making through the preparation of quantitative analyses, financial projections and management reports, in close coordination with corporate planning and ALM functions. In addition, this position will also be responsible for providing advisory support to front‑office operations to better handle the increasing scale of business. The role requires strong practical experience in both front‑office and middle‑office banking operations, and not only theoretical knowledge of risk management.
- Responsible for ensuring sound management of credit risks of the bank.
- Review transaction contracts and documentation related to ship finance, based on practical understanding of front‑office operations, and ensure potential risks are properly identified and managed.
- Conduct financial analysis of loan clients and oversee internal and MAS credit rating assessments and reviews.
- Review financing details from head office and other banks, and advise front‑office staff on Treasury operations, including planning and execution of investment strategies.
- Review and confirm the appropriateness of interest rates applied to loans and deposits.
- Lead ALM‑related risk controls, including interest rate risk, liquidity risk management and capital allocation, to ensure sound overall portfolio management.
- Support senior management by preparing quantitative analysis, financial projections and other management reporting materials.
- Provide daily guidance, training and supervision for a team of 2–3 members and support cross‑departmental coordination.
- Conduct gap analysis between MAS bulletins/regulations and internal bank policies.
Job Requirements
- At least 15 years of working experience in the banking industry, with exposure to front‑office, middle‑office and back‑office functions within the last 5 years. Expert knowledge and experience in Singapore and Japanese financial market, as well as knowledge and working experience in corporate financing are required.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in middle/back‑office operations, particularly in credit risk management, ALM, corporate planning or related control functions as a manager or above. Successful candidate must particularly have exceptional practical experience in the areas of Ship Finance and Credit Risk Control.
- Strong practical experience in corporate lending and credit risk analysis, with exposure to ship finance or other structured transactions from a risk management perspective, including contract review, credit assessment and risk evaluation.
- At least 5 years of managerial experience, with proven ability to lead teams and coordinate across departments.
- At least 5 years of experience in analysing branch asset composition and risk metrics to support Treasury operations, including providing input on funding, liquidity and market risk management in a banking environment.
- Strong quantitative analysis and financial planning skills, with experience preparing management reports and financial projections.
- Proven experience using quantitative risk indicators to support strategic decision‑making and to maintain governance frameworks, policies and internal guidelines.
- In‑depth understanding of banking regulations, compliance requirements and information security in both Singapore and Japan; experience working with external stakeholders such as regulators or rating agencies is an advantage.
