About the Role:

Brighton College (Singapore) is seeking an inspirational Head of Music to join our expanding school community from August 2026. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead and shape the musical vision of the Senior School as Brighton College (Singapore) develops from a first-class Prep School into one of the region’s leading all-through schools, offering education from Pre-Nursery to Year 13.

What you will be doing:
  • Lead all aspects of music education and performance across the Senior School, ensuring the highest standards of teaching, learning and enrichment.
  • Be responsible for the teaching, progress and attainment of all pupils in Years 7 to 12 from August 2026, extending this responsibility to Year 13 as the school grows.
  • Lead on Key Stage 3 and 4 curriculum planning and delivery, including preparation for the first IGCSE cohort sitting examinations in June 2027.
  • Lead on Key Stage 5 curriculum planning and delivery, including preparation for the first A-level cohort commencing with Year 12 in August 2026.
  • Oversee all aspects of assessment, tracking and reporting for academic music.
  • Demonstrate the experience and expertise to teach music effectively across all relevant Key Stages, including IGCSE/GCSE and A-level.
  • Act as an outstanding classroom practitioner, modelling best practice and high expectations.
  • Implement rigorous systems of departmental self-evaluation and continuous improvement.
  • Promote excellence, creativity and innovation in all areas of the music curriculum.
  • Design, lead and administer a rich and varied co-curricular music programme.
  • Direct a range of musical groups and ensembles for Senior School pupils, and where appropriate, upper Prep pupils.
  • Line manage the Prep and Pre-Prep Music Teachers, ensuring consistency of provision across all phases of the school.
  • Develop and coordinate an annual calendar of musical events and performances, working closely with colleagues in Prep and Pre-Prep.
  • Collaborate with staff in other performing arts disciplines, including Drama and Dance, on school productions and cross-departmental initiatives.
  • Support and guide pupils applying to leading universities, including Oxford, Cambridge and other world‑class institutions.
  • Ensure pupils are well‑prepared for both internal and external music competitions, providing appropriate challenge for the most able.
  • Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Undertake any other reasonable management requests in support of the school’s mission, vision, and values.
Who we are looking for:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music with PGCE or equivalent.
  • Expert knowledge or experience of successfully delivering GCSEs/IGCSEs and A-level.
  • Proven track record of middle leadership (preferred).
  • International school experience (preferred).
  • Superb writing and speaking abilities.
