Tutoring (Education & Enrichment)
- $40 – $60 per hour (Depending on experience)
- Able to commit for minimum 6 months.
- Working Hours: 7:30PM - 9:00PM Weekdays (Mon-Thu)
JOB PURPOSE
The Young Hearts programme (YH) aims to provide children and youth in challenging circumstances with a leg-up in life. We work with partners to develop holistic programmes for children and youth to build strong foundations. These include quality education and enrichment programmes that foster learning and character growth.
We are seeking passionate, responsible and skilled tutors who are able to meaningfully engage and deliver tailored academic support to students facing challenges. Tutors will play a crucial role in encouraging and helping students from vulnerable backgrounds overcome educational barriers and build resilience.
JOB SPECIFICATION
Key Responsibilities
1. General and Pre Tutoring Session
- Familiarise with the lesson content before the lesson and prepare additional resources and/or adopt suitable teaching strategy
- Maintain punctuality and good time management during tuition sessions
- Respect the privacy and dignity of children and their families at all times
- Be responsive and up-to-date on all communication with YH staff and programme
- Attend mandatory yearly briefing session & training (without compensation of hours)
2. During Tutoring Session
- Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment
- Show respect towards staff, fellow tutors and all students from diverse backgrounds
- Conduct tutoring sessions for P1-P6 based on specially tailored English and Maths Curriculum for YH Learning materials provided
- Conduct tutoring sessions for Sec 1-4 based on materials given and ‘N’ & ‘O’ Level curriculum Learning materials provided
- Participate actively in making the curriculum interesting for the students and ensure regular in-class checks for understanding, providing students with guidance and constructive feedback to improve
- Conduct timely assessment based on YH Timeline given by the Curriculum Team.
- Grade assessment papers and record the score as advised by the Curriculum Team.
3. Post Tutoring Session
- Work with the Young Hearts team to monitor and assess student progress, adjusting teaching and classroom management methods as needed.
Education/ Certification Requirements
- Minimum ‘O’ Level/Diploma for Lower Primary, with experience teaching children aged 7-10 in a classroom setting.
- Degree preferred for Secondary level tutors. Tutors with more than 5 years experience teaching Secondary may apply.
- Proven experience in teaching English and Math for primary or secondary levels preferred. Those with experience teaching children and youth outside of school contexts will be considered on an individual basis.
- Ability to create a positive and motivating learning environment. Familiarity with the challenges faced by children from disadvantaged backgrounds and/ or experience with SEL frameworks for children and youths is highly desirable.
