Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Ensures operation of vessels in compliance with the Company SMS, international/ local regulations, codes and guidance as applicable.
  • Efficient and safe working of the fleet of vessels under his direct supervision through respective vessel manager.
  • Coordinates with the operations, QHSE and Fleet Personnel department for safe and efficient operation of the vessel.
  • Ensure proper follow up and investigation is carried out for all Accidents and Injuries and actions are taken to prevent similar incidents again.
  • Chair daily meeting with vessel managers and representatives from operations, QHSE and Fleet Personnel department. Meeting will cover issues requiring interdepartmental coordination and non-routine issues.
  • Review financial budgets from Superintendents and provide financial and technical feedback to owner.
  • Attend start-up of dry docks, whenever the technicality of the job or the experience level of the attending Superintendent requires so.
  • Give feedback to Management in form of suggestions for continuous improvement / stream lining procedures in Head Office, and on board in consultation with the Managing Director, coordinate pre-purchase / pre-takeover inspection of vessels and condition surveys. Conversion and upgrading study and feasibility, cost estimates, planning, execution and supervision of major conversion projects.
  • Coordinate with the vessel manager and other department to prepare the vessel for third party inspections like PSC, Class, Flag, SIRE, Rightship, Terminal etc. Assist in preparing and closing out findings raised during the inspection.
  • Designated Person (DP) for the fleet with direct access to the top management on safety and pollution prevention aspects of the vessel in the fleet. He has full authority for taking decision pertaining to safety and environmental protection of the vessel.

Requirements

  • Minimum 9 years’ experience as Vessel Manager.
  • Minimum 10 years sailing experience.
  • Should be professionally sound, highly motivated & a good team player.
  • Good leadership qualities & strong commitment to safety/compliance procedures are essentially needed in our organization.
