Job summary

Job Responsibilities
Nursing Care and Management
  • Assist the RN(s) in ensuring and providing safe and quality nursing practice and a high standard of care rendered to the residents / clients at all times.
  • Ensure proper documentation and endorsements of residents’/clients’ records and provide updated information to RNs.
  • Observe and adhere to Infection Control protocols.
  • Ensure the NAs and HCAs follow safety precautions/practices in the prevention of falls, hazards, and pressure sores.
  • Assist the RN in attending to emergencies as and when the need arises.
  • Perform nursing procedures independently such as NG Tube Insertion and Simple Wound Dressings.
  • Assist the RNs and observe the standard procedure in medication administration; monitor and supervise the NAs when feeding medication to residents, ensuring zero (0) medication errors.
  • Participate and assist in the Volunteer Doctor’s rounds with the RNs on duty/in charge.
  • Collaborate and cooperate with other allied healthcare professionals to ensure proper and smooth delivery of care and service.
  • Accompany residents/clients for clinic/hospital appointments and/or transfers when the need arises.
  • Respect and protect the rights and responsibilities of the residents/clients.
  • Be on call in the event of an emergency in the Home.
Professional Development
  • Mentor and supervise NAs and HCAs in their scope of work, clinical skills, and maintenance of safe work practices and infection control standards.
  • Participate in ongoing nursing education to enhance clinical knowledge and competency.
  • Work in collaboration with the Nurse Educator/Clinical Instructor for on-the-job training of NAs and HCAs.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Home or Nurse Manager.
Resource Management
  • Demonstrate proper use and care of equipment.
  • Assist in the supervision of the daily maintenance of medical equipment.
  • Demonstrate proper and economical usage of the Home’s consumables and supplies.
  • Maintain and monitor inventories (i.e., consumables and supplies) and equipment.
Administration
  • Assist the RN in the preparation of duty rosters.
  • Assist the RN in the preparation and maintenance of documentation.
Customer Management
  • Act as a liaison to clients and their families, maintaining good rapport and service.
  • Maintain good relations whilst liaising with external agencies such as hospitals, clinics, etc.
  • Maintain good relations with internal customers of the Home.
  • Maintain, at all times, good public relations with volunteers and visitors.
Any Other Duties
  • Help ensure the cleanliness of the Home (DAC and wards) and maintain safe work practices.
  • Assist the RN to conduct quality assurance on the equipment at least twice a year.
  • Be familiar with all aspects of nursing home emergency and evacuation procedures and policies.
  • Assist in fire drill exercises twice a year, in accordance with the Fire Safety Bureau regulations, with the assistance of all staff concerned as per FIRE SAFETY SOP.
  • Participate and contribute to events at and/or by the Home.
Job Specifications
Qualifications and Experience
  • National Institute of Technical Education (ITE): Certificate in Nursing or its equivalent.
  • SNB Enrolled Nurse.
  • At least 2 years of relevant working experience in a hospital or healthcare environment.
  • Experience in working with people with disabilities or the elderly.
Additional Skills and Knowledge
  • Ability to perform holistic assessments/reassessments for residents/clients.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills.
