⚡ Electrical Engineer – Marine AC/DC Power Systems

About the Role
We are looking for a skilled Electrical Engineer specialising in AC and DC marine power systems to support our DP FMEA engineering team with design reviews, verification studies, and system optimisation across a range of vessel types.
This role centres on technical analysis, ensuring electrical architectures are safe, reliable and compliant with classification and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and assess AC and DC marine power system designs, philosophies and integration arrangements
- Conduct detailed review of analytical studies including:
- Load flow and dynamic response
- Short-circuit and selectivity
- Protection coordination and relay settings
- Harmonics, transient stability & power quality
- Arc flash and fault containment
- Evaluate system layouts including MV/LV switchboards, distribution systems, propulsion networks and emergency supplies
- Analyse and verify hybrid/alternative configurations (e.g., ESS/battery, DC grid, power converters and drives)
- Prepare technical assessments, gap analysis and recommendations based on study outcomes
- Review vendor submissions, SLDs, schematics, and electrical calculation reports
- Implement class and regulatory compliance (DNV, ABS, LR, IMO, IEC)
- Support FAT/SAT and commissioning from a systems perspective
- Present findings and risk-based recommendations to project teams and clients
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical/Power Engineering or equivalent
- 4+ years’ experience in marine, offshore, industrial, or power systems engineering
- Demonstrated experience in AC and DC network analysis
- Proficiency with power system study software such as ETAP, Digsilent, PSCAD or SKM
- Strong understanding of protection philosophy, relay logic and coordination
Desired Skills
- Familiarity with hybrid propulsion, microgrids and energy storage
- Knowledge of power electronics, converters and variable frequency drives
- Experience developing electrical operating philosophies
- Ability to interpret vendor data and detect design inconsistencies
- Strong analytical writing and communication skills
