Job description

At ResMed, we’re on a mission to change lives with every breath — and our global supply chain is rapidly transforming to enable growth, resilience, quality, and value at scale.

We’re hiring a Director of Automation & Systems Integration to lead the design, standardisation, and deployment of automation and digital‑integration platforms across our manufacturing and distribution network. This role builds the automation backbone of our next‑generation supply chain; engineering scalable, reliable, and intelligent systems that increase productivity, improve asset performance, and enable scale.

The Opportunity

As Director of Automation & Systems Integration leads the global engineering organization responsible for robotics, automation, controls, and systems integration across all supply chain sites. You will define automation design principles and standard platforms, and form strategic engineering partnerships with technology providers and Automation OEMS — going well beyond a “smart customer” to co‑create, refine, and scale automation solutions across the network.

This role integrates automation with MES, WES/WCS, SCADA, PLC/controls, and digital data layers to enable real‑time visibility, predictive insights, and improved decision making. You’ll work closely with Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Global Logistics & Distribution, Planning, Quality, Digital Supply Chain, and Product Development to ensure automation solutions deliver throughput, reliability, safety, and long‑term capacity.

This role is foundational to our Network 2030+ vision: a globally consistent, modular, automation‑ready network capable of scaling with speed, resilience, and confidence.

Key Responsibilities
Automation Strategy & Network 2030+ Alignment
  • Build and execute a global automation strategy that accelerates automation as the core productivity driver of our next‑generation supply chain.
  • Define standardised automation design principles, modular architectures, controls frameworks, and platform strategies deployable across regions.
  • Develop a multi‑year roadmap for robotics, AGVs/AMRs, AS/RS, automated test platforms, and material movement automation aligned to network growth and supply chain transformation.
  • Serve as a strategic partner in evaluating automation opportunities and ensuring investments align with business value, operational needs, and supply chain transformation priorities.
Systems Integration & the Digital Thread
  • Lead systems integration of automation assets with MES, WES/WCS, SCADA, PLC/Controls, IoT, and enterprise data systems.
  • Establish integration toolkits, templates, interface libraries, and testing protocols to ensure consistency and reliability.
  • Develop and partner to create standard integration architectures, integration toolkits, and interface libraries that ensure interoperability, scalability, and reliability.
  • Partner with Digital Supply Chain teams to connect automation performance data to real‑time dashboards, predictive analytics and digital twin, enabling smarter CapEx and planning decisions.
  • Ensure new and existing automation platforms are integrated securely and consistently, enabling faster deployment and reduced engineering re‑work.
Robotics, Automation Platforms & Deployment Excellence
  • Lead engineering evaluation, technology selection, and deployment of robotics, automation technologies across manufacturing and distribution environments (paperless systems, robotics, LSR automation, AGVs/AMRs, material handling systems, automated test and inspection).
  • Govern engineering specifications, vendor selection, lifecycle cost models, standard controls architecture, FAT/SAT protocols, and commissioning excellence.
  • Establish an Automation Center of Excellence to accelerate standardisation, replicate best practice, and scale solutions globally at pace.
  • Champion design‑for‑replication to enable rapid, reliable deployment of automation platforms across sites.
Asset Performance, Reliability & Automation Health
  • Ensure all automation and integrated systems produce accurate, high‑resolution performance data to support OEE improvement, predictive maintenance, and capacity optimization.
  • Partner with Industrial Engineering and Asset Performance teams to leverage downtime analytics, bottleneck analysis, TPB‑aligned reliability engineering practices.
  • Embed automation health monitoring, diagnostics, and predictive analytics to improve uptime, throughput, and line stability.
  • Enable real‑time and global automation dashboards, linking physical automation performance directly into planning and continuous improvement.
New Site Establishment & Automation‑Ready Design
  • Define automation and integration requirements for new supply chain sites, ensuring automation readiness from concept to commissioning.
  • Partner with Facility and Industrial Engineering to embed automation early in layout design, utilities planning, safety architecture, and CVS (Commissioning, Validation, Scale) processes.
  • Deploy modular automation solutions that reduce commissioning times, improve CapEx efficiency, and enable predictable scalability across the network.
Leadership, Governance & Capability Building
  • Build a world‑class global team of automation, robotics, controls, and systems integration engineers.
  • Establish engineering governance to ensure global standardisation, interoperability, and consistent decision‑making across all sites.
  • Create training pathways and capability‑building programs to develop future‑ready, digitally enabled automation talent.
  • Foster a culture grounded in engineering rigor, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
About You
  • 12–15+ years in automation engineering, robotics, systems integration, or advanced manufacturing engineering, including 5+ years in senior leadership roles.
  • Deep expertise in automation platforms including robotics, AGVs/AMRs, automated test systems, material storage and handling automation, and controls architecture and digital integration (MES, SCADA, PLC, WES/WCS, IoT).
  • Strong manufacturing automation experience is essential; exposure to distribution automation is valuable.
  • Experience with TPM, reliability engineering, or maintenance strategies for automated systems is highly beneficial.
  • Demonstrated success delivering global automation deployments in highly regulated, multi‑site supply chain environments.
  • Strong understanding of OEE, bottleneck analysis, predictive maintenance, flow modeling, and asset performance improvement.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automation, Mechatronics, Systems, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering; advanced digital or robotics certifications a plus.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders across global supply chain landscapes.
Success Metrics
  • Automation Excellence: Deliver measurable productivity and flow improvements through scalable automation solutions.
  • Platform Standardization: Drive adoption of standardized automation architectures across the majority of applicable sites within the first 18–24 months.
  • Asset Performance & Reliability: Improve uptime and automation reliability through enhanced diagnostics, predictive maintenance, and data‑driven monitoring.
  • Digital Thread & Integration Velocity: Reduce integration time and engineering re‑work by implementing standard architectures and reusable components.
  • Speed, Scalability & Capital Efficiency: Shorten automation deployment timelines at new or expanding sites through modular design and engineering governance.
  • People & Capability: Build and sustain a high‑performing automation engineering team with strong engagement and development progression.
