Job title: Deputy CSAO (Chief Safety Officer)

Our client, a leading advanced manufacturing firm in Japan, is looking for a Deputy Person in Charge of Safety (Deputy CSAO) to support the Business Unit in developing and executing safety strategies, ensuring compliance, and promoting a safe work environment. You will also act on behalf of the CSAO during their absence.

Responsibilities
  1. Needs Assessment
    • Assess the impact of market and industry changes on safety strategy within the BU.
    • Identify key safety-related issues and risks.
  2. Improvement & Innovation
    • Build a globally competitive, innovative organization and culture.
    • Drive timely adjustments in safety strategy aligned with business changes.
  3. Advisory Role
    • Provide expert safety advice and recommendations to BU executives.
    • Support decision-making for projects, change initiatives, and policy communication.
  4. Strategy Formulation & Implementation
    • Lead formulation and execution of safety strategies for the BU.
    • Align BU safety strategies with global corporate safety strategy and ESG priorities.
    • Anticipate and respond to complex domestic and international issues.
  5. Stakeholder Engagement
    • Identify and engage internal and external stakeholders (executives, employees, customers, local communities, etc.).
    • Understand needs and concerns, and strengthen engagement through transparent communication.
  6. Compliance & Risk Management
    • Ensure adherence to organizational policies, laws, and safety regulations.
    • Develop principles, voluntary codes of conduct, and a culture of compliance.
    • Minimize business risks and protect organizational credibility.
  7. Leadership & Information Sharing
    • Promote the corporate vision and improve employee engagement.
    • Share management information to foster alignment and collaboration.
    • Manage resources (people, goods, funds) effectively to achieve organizational goals.
    • Develop human resources and organizational capabilities.
    • Common Management Responsibility: Set organizational goals and achieve them through resource allocation, business management, and talent development.

Requirement & Preferences

(Must)

  • Diploma or higher in Workplace Safety & Health or a related discipline.
  • 8–10+ years of experience in elevator/escalator safety, building services, MEP, or construction HSE.
  • Strong knowledge of elevator safety codes/standards and contractor management.
  • Proven experience in multi-site or regional safety governance and incident investigation (RCA).
  • Experience leading a safety function in a global organization.

(Advantageous)

  • Experience overseeing construction site safety in diverse Asian markets, including India.
  • Exposure across multiple fields, including digital domains, within or outside the organization.
  • Experience managing large organizations with 100+ employees.
  • Background in business restructuring, turnaround, and corporate transactions (e.g., JVs, alliances, M&A, outsourcing).
  • Experience as a business head or functional head, including division-level leadership.
